Double Skin Steel Partitioning in Prague

13 July 2018

The Client: A worldwide supplier of safety components and systems for the railway industry, for whom we had completed work in the UK.

The Brief: They were setting up a manufacturing plant in Prague and needed offices and defined shop floor work spaces for specific tasks such as welding, grinding and cooling.

Noise was a big issue and the use of space is always important, even with an empty shell.

They allowed us to quote because they had liked our previous work at their sites in the UK, including steel partitioning, mesh enclosures, longspan racking, ESD Workbenches, ESD Chairs, pallet trucks and stackers etc.

Our design work and competitive pricing philosophy enabled us to beat off both foreign and UK competitors.

The Solution: Double skin steel partitioning was used throughout to create both a uniform look and sound reduction.

The factory roof was quite high, so a mezzanine floor was constructed and double skin steel offices were built below and above to create a two tier office with staircase, thereby saving valuable floor space.

The wall elevations included double glazing throughout for sound reduction and visibility.

Both floors were finished with a suspended ceiling and a staircase was added with yellow safety edges to the treads.

The shop floor booths for grinding and welding etc were constructed of all solid steel double skin panels, with insulation - all designed to keep the noise penetration down to a minimum.

Special Features: As well as insulation in the cavity of the double skin partitioning, 100mm thick ceiling panels were used to reduce noise. Vent grilles were incorporated to help with their ventilation system and vision panels with safety glass were fitted in the doors, to allow safe entry and exit.

Collaboration: From the design stage stage onwards we worked closely with the client to get the specification right.

Our relationship was such that to keep costs down and to make things run smoothly, they even arranged the accommodation and daily transport from the hotel to the site.

All the materials were sourced from UK factories and suppliers, crated and then transported to Prague.

The whole job took approximately two weeks.
